Title: Oostrum music Corner
Post by: mrline on June 23, 2005, 09:26:58 PM
Since I keep littering the musicians thread with my recordings, I tought it would be better if I put it in this thread instead, so it's all a bit more clear and the musicians thread can be used for talking about music and gigs and stuff. :)
Otherwise I would keep on flooding the musicians thread lol, since I record and upload stuff on a regular basis. :P

I'll just post all of my stuff here for those who are insterested (I hope some are :P). And Maartn can post his stuff here too. ;)

Here's new versions of:

Reveal (http://www.acidplanet.com/artist.asp?PID=564072&T=9556)
(a ballad-like song I wrote myself)

and

Ohne dich (http://www.acidplanet.com/artist.asp?PID=564773&t=7717)
(a ballad-like Rammstein song).

No more DADADA!

Enjoy.  :cool2:

EDIT:

BTW here's the song index of the music page:
song index (http://www.acidplanet.com/artist.asp?songs=374342&T=5035)

And Maartns:

Well, that sounds more like it!
You bought a mic, that's better... :)

Here is my personal review, I tried to listen without prejudice and be honest about it;
Reveal: I LIKE IT BUT: You shouldn't raise your voice too high, you're better in singin' lower,
it is a nice ballad though, I like the sound of the piano very much...
Rating: Voice: 7. Double voice: 8.
Piano and other music: 8.

Ohne Dich: I didn't know that song, this sounds fine although Rammstein isn't my taste,
you have a better voice for this I think, the lower the better...
Voice: 8.
Music: 7.
Now get back to work and do a lot of practice, you will be better and better
and next thing I know is that you have a hitrecord in 2006, go for it!
Vooral dooorgaan! (Barry Stevens)

Why thanks for the honest review.  :cool2: I should practice the high voice a bit more I guess, the chorus wouldn't sound as good with a low voice only. Maybe I should mix both a high and low voice, I love "meerstemmige zang" :)

BTW I'm not using a mic, this is all done with a headset (!), but mixed better (added some reverb to Reveal). :P

You've sure done a wonderful job then
with this headphone because it sounds a lot better!
You managed to throw away that ugly Dada sound too so
you're going forward.
What I meant was you didn't sound bad when you raise your voice
but sometimes there were a few mistakes in it, you did go too high and
were out of rhythym. But that kind of problems can be fixed ofcourse,
I also liked the double voice, it sounds professional... :cool2:

I think Reveal is Mrline's best vocal-quality song by now :) I really like it :)

-----

Anyway I made a new version of "finally summer again" (yes that easy and happy song :P)
This new version has no anoying DADADA sounds anymore, and the end is much better. So check it out:

Merlijn! You MUST find a good metal band for your vocals. Very clear, you deserve fame. :P

Reveal is a very catchy song. (http://forums.atlasf1.com/images/icons/icon14.gif)

Woah! Thanks alot Numan :) I take a 8 as a big compliment.
BTW I might upload vocal-based songs as well IF they work well..I'm just kinda bad at singing without any false tune and I really suck at speaking correctly english/german..so I'm not sure.

Here is a weird cover of "Du riecht so gut" (Rammstein's first release) made by me and my bro :)

Du riecht so gut (http://www.acidplanet.com/artist.asp?PID=577895&t=6549)

Maarten - Keyboards, backing vocals
Merlijn - Piano, vocals.

About time I'd bumb up this topic :)

I've uploaded a new song: click here to check out "Circles" (http://www.acidplanet.com/artist.asp?PID=596252&t=6091)

It's a very soft and melodic song, even more quiet then "Reveal". If you liked that song, you'll probably like this one too. ;)

Any comments are appreciated!  :cool2:

BTW the next track will be really different; I'm working on a very experimental song right now, but I think the first recording isn't good enough.. yet. :P

lovely song!
Rating: 7! :)

Why don't you guys buy a 3mm jackplug? You can plug it into the Headphone socket on your keyboard into the Mic socket on the computer where you usually put your headset in. It's that simple and zero quality loss. :) I use it for my synth. Come on, 3 euros for a fucking cable? :P

Reveal reminds me of Van der Graaf Generator. It sounds very good. Your vocals are improving. :)

Edit: It is actually VERY similiar to Van der Graaf Generator. Do you know that band? The lyrics, the music, the vocals, the usage of piano and organs. Everything. You could be a incarnation of Peter Hamill.   Okay, maybe I am overreacting but you should continue like this and start a band. (something you are already forming if I am correct)

Thanks, but I have NO IDEA who Van der Graaf Generator is. :D I just make melodic music with keyboards. But funny coincidence then. :)

BTW hi, I'm back.

A new song, I'm actually quite proud of it myself. :D This one is a bit more rocky then the previous songs I posted here.

There's still some small glitches, such as some wrong notes in the solo (it's pretty hard to play :P) but anway:

Enjoy Denial! (http://www.acidplanet.com/artist.asp?PID=606563&T=2895)

Any kind of comments are appreciated (as long as it is constructive ;) )

Well I herd it, and it was pretty neat :) nice stuff!

I also liked the other song you sent me, maybe evern more than this one. some parts were really cool, but you wernt happy with it so.... :)

I just really liked the funky regeea sounds :D

Thnx :D

I rerecorded the vocals btw, not much difference but IMHO they're a bit better now (especially balance between high voice / low voice during chorus). :)

That other song I sent you needs some work I think, I'm not entirely happy about the way the song flows now, but who knows, I might post it. But the neighbours are getting a bit angry at me. :P

I was toying a bit with my recording program, recording multiple vocals, this is how the chorus of Denial came out of it. :P Sure sounds weird  :D

Man! :D You really have a weird voice!
And I mean that positive, you know I like funny music, (Zappa and such) not the same old commercial tunes and this is something I like very much!
It reminds me of Supersister a bit, a band who was famous in the seventees in our country, they also had that "weird" rock piano sound,
do you know them?     http://www.supersister.nl/ (http://www.supersister.nl/)
The solo was awesome too and I really like your voice also in the double but there's one thing, this is a good song but sometimes the music is out of rhythym, I can imagine because this is not an easy melody, nevertheless I want to say that if you practice this more the song will be better and better...
All the "glitches" (what are that? Not in my dictionairy) should be gone and then this song will be rocking even more!

Anyway, good job! I'll give it an 8! :)

Yep I know them, they have some awesome songs. :)

Thanks for the feedback you gave me. ;) You're right about the timing issues. Guess I'll have to practice a bit more. I want to re-record the vocals too, but I'have the feeling my neighbours won't be too happy about it. :P

Allright, small update here...

We've got a 3mm cable thingey and a mic now (no more headset :P) and I have completed another (really good) song... BUT.. I have a damn throat-ache atm   So you'll have to wait a bit longer for it.

To make it up a bit: here's a small piano-jam I did (will probably use it for some complete song). It's only 50 seconds but it's cool. Any comments are appreaciated.

Warning: might get stuck in head. ;)

Ok....

Well...this is my first vocal-based song, totally written by me (Music (keyboards)  & vocals..Except for the lyrics, which is made by Merlijn). It's mood is quite dark, and I really like the results (apart from the small errors). Don't expect too much of my vocals :P And I've really *bad* english also. Record quality is better then my previous songs here (thanks to the cable & mic   ).

Not sure if you'll reconize my voice from my map ABBA :P

MAATRNS SONG ROXOORZ111111

Nice atmosphere, the vocals fit the music, the chorus is kinda creepy in a way.. Somehow it has a Castlevania-like feeling or something - pretty fucked comparison I know but thats how it sounds to me lol. Catchy and sounds good, I like it very much really. Id give it an 8 / 10 (while I would give Mrlines 'Reveal' song a 9).

The song Mrline is gonna post after me is cool too.

EDIT : wait, he just posted it. Listen to it its damn good and catchy as well.

When I play the radio mostly I hear the same kind of songs,
there only a few artists that can wake me up because they have
a different way to make music, after hearing all kinds of music for 35 years
I mostly get saturated and bored and try to remember where I've heard it before...

But...

This is an example of: "And now, something completely different folks!" :biggrin2:
I really like this, the piano and keyboards are freaky but have a nice melody line,
the music and your voice sounds weirdy and creepy in a positive way,
it's also music that makes me laugh a little because I hear the fun in your voice,
you really enjoyed making it, also I like that you don't play the whole song
the same rhythym, No, you change the tune and rhythym and made it with lots of variety!
I suggest that you record it once again and polish it some more,
maybe you can make it longer with an extra keyboard creepy solo and the end is a bit abrupt in my opinion...

To me this nice song deserves an 8! :)

Hype (http://www.acidplanet.com/artist.asp?PID=652785&t=6966)
I actually wrote 1 year ago, but of course it's different in some ways here. :)  The music is quite happy, I really like the results. But vocals & my english aren't really my strongest points, but I guess it's the best I can do. Enjoy peeps :)

Hey, I enjoyed this even it cost me 16 minutes to download it with this dial up connection!
It is a piece of alternative new wave rap,
I especially liked the strange sounds and keyboards, it all sounded good Maartn!
The mystery and suspension of the upcoming bass and the creepy sounds and whispering voices in the background;
I liked it all, good song!

Rating: 8! :)

I have completed my new song, it's based on the little keyboard jam I posted on here before.

It's a fairly simple, catchy and poppy song, the piano is the main instrument here, spiced up with bass, drum and atmospheric keyboards. It's a quite calm and melodic mid-tempo song with somewhat lamenting lyrics, might remind you a bit of Coldplay. Vocals might not be totally clear sometimes, but this (hopefully)  doesn't distract from the song. :-)

Anyway here's the link:

Running (no, not in circles!) (http://www.acidplanet.com/artist.asp?PID=658572&T=9241)

Comments are welcome. :)

MrLine, I'm back after the movement and your Bro Maartn asked me to rate your new song... Is he your PR man or manager? :D

Not bad this poppy song! But I must admit I like your experimental creepy sound better...
The lyrics and music were good but it's a matter of taste, I like music less when I can sing it along the first time of listening already,
maybe I heard too much in my life, that's why I like experimental songs with a difference in rythym better,
not only Zappa but the old music of Rush and Yes for example is fantastic also...

Nevertheless it's good that you try some other styles too to see where your heart fits the most...  :)
I'll rate this song with a seven... well done...

7

Thanks :)

As for being able to sing along with it.. well I don't think every song has to be weird or hard to digest. ;) Sometimes a catchy melody is the best way to get the message across. :)

Well it took a while but I've finally finished the recording of a new song:

Off to war again (http://www.acidplanet.com/artist.asp?PID=693445&t=1704)

This is a ballad-like song that's in the same vein as Reveal, telling the tale of an ex-soldier traumatized by war. The beginning is very quiet and soft but the song gradually builds up towards the big climax. Clocking at almost 6 minutes, it's also by far my longest and most epic song yet.
There's a few wrong notes in the vocals. I'm having a cold but I did the best I could. You can probably hear pretty clear that I'm having a cold lol. :P I'll prolly redo the vocals when I'm 100% healthy again. :)

Anyway, please post some feedback here. :)

Beautiful melody, great lyrics, well sung (I actually understood the lyrics, which means that you sing much more clearly nowadays) So THAT'S IT!  The only complaint I can have now are the sounds of your keyboard. Sounds like you're ready to purchase a synthesizer now, so you can develop even more! :)

^ In the Netherlands PATAT always rules on saturdays... :biggrin2:

Anyway, I like your christmas song! :)

Review: Rating: 8...
This is the 21th song in your AcidPlanet account and to me it's a celebration;
I just like the fact that you wrote this yourself, it's a sad soldier story but it didn't became too sentimental,
the way so much songs are just around christmas...
The lyrics and the music touched me, it sure is a nice ballad and you seem to get better every song.
The melodyline is very good and I just love the way you bring excitement with your voicetone;
("why did this happen to me?")  "Will the nightmares ever leave me?"
Also the keyboard solo was far out to me and I didn't really miss the synthesizer sound, this is a GREAT SONG!

Let's plug this on the radio and make it a christmas hit record!  :D

Ok, call me crazy but I gave this hell of a song a 10 as well :P

My review, which explains why:

The song structure is exellent, no wrong parts at all. I just love the way it's build up, with the very soft start, to a strong & heavy end, which is my favourite part. Lyrics are fine, vocals are well done again, you can hear a bit you've a cold indeed, but it didn't really bother me. Only some *very* small wrong notes, as you mentioned. I would give this song a 9.5 judging from how it's now. But since you want to improve it, it will be probably higher, so I gave it a 10 @ Acidplanet :P Congrats!  And...keep up with making songs bro ;)

It's been way too long since I posted a new song, but...here I'm presenting my new song:

Time is flying away (http://www.acidplanet.com/artist.asp?PID=703990&T=554)

This time it's a sort kind of ballad, personly I think it's by far the best song I've ever written. (still some small bugs, but it pretty much impossible to make it bug-less, on a home made-record). It starts with some bluesy verses, later there is a big solo waiting for you :)

Also, since I can't really sing, Merlijn  helped with the vocals in the chorus, since I couldn't make it with my voice :)
Anyway, enjoy this 5.03 musical trip :)

Title: Oostrum music Corner
Post by: mrline on December 26, 2005, 02:16:01 AM
NP for helping you out with the vocals, that chorus is a bitch to sing. ;)

Anyway, I think it's by far your best song yet. :) The song structure is really good (it flows nicely and has some great unexpected twists) and the main melody (the piano) is just brilliant!

Go check that shit people! (

PS: you don't have to register or log in to listen to the song, this also goes for my songs (there's a link to "Off to war again" on top of the previous page). ;) You only have to register when you also want to download or review them.

Not much, but I made a little cover of the Rammstein song "Stirb nicht vor mir":

It's very different then the original song. I've turned it into a soft piano ballad (I've only played piano and some strings), it sounds kinda depressing now. :P

Enjoy!  :cool2:

I don't know wether you know the original song (which is a duet between Rammstein and the singer of Texas), but trust me, it doesn't sound like regular Rammstein at all, save for the fact that it's sung in German. :P

Not some "easy listening" as the original, but I really like what you've made of the song. (Too bad from the small errors tho).
As I always told you, you've a nice singing voice (You seem to sing a bit different then you usual do, but it does sound good to me).
Liked the extra violn solo also. Good job! :)
Would give it a 8.

Lol I'll review it as well since I actually listened to it wryyy.

I think it's good, your singing is good ( high notes are a bit of a problem ) and the music is just nice. Except for the piano... I think it lacks a little echo and 'ambacht'.. it's too sharp and the notes are too short for a subtle song like this. When the extra strings ( I have no idea what I'm calling what here, I don't speak your young hipster language ) pop in it gets that little bit of extra which I really like.

Rating: F.

Title: Oostrum music Corner
Post by: mrline on January 06, 2006, 11:09:50 PM
Thnx for your feedback, the piano indeed doesn't sound very deep, it's from my keyboard so it isn't as good as a real piano (real piano's rock!). I added some reverb but maybe I should have added a bit more (but then it often sounds too "drowned", it's hard to find the right balance)

BTW: strings means violins of course. :)

BTW2: ain't nuttin wrong with my high notes, U scum! I personally think those are the best. ;) :P

My new song (and this is actually a real decent writen one, since my previous songs where mainly writen one year ago), and it's a quite calm / mellow one (apart from the end).

Bad decision (http://www.acidplanet.com/artist.asp?PID=722076&t=4136)

It begins cacthy and poppy sounding, later it becomes more dark & creepy (just like the lyrics). This is also my most melodic song yet. (might you remind alot of Merlijns work)
Lyrics are kinda sad and are about people that do some crazy things without thinking what they are doing.
Vocals...did the best I can so I hope you'll enjoy it, but then again, I hardly can sing good :P (didn't "beta-tested" them either this time). Some bugs, like dissortion in vocals, but overal I'm proud of this one, since I spend a lot of time with recording this song.

To reply to Rob:
I think you're right. After recording this song I actually already was thinking about to go more intrumental. Or maybe totally intrumental, not sure really yet. I guess I'll let Merlijn do the vocals for some parts also.
Maybe I've not the right voice? :(

Although IMO I improved with singing, if I compare this to "war!".

I've just uploaded my newest song, poor Numan has to work overtime now! :D
Here is:

Strangled (http://www.acidplanet.com/artist.asp?PID=730343&t=6162)

This is one of my more experimental songs, and it's different then most of the stuff I've uploaded so far. Piano is still the key-instrument here (spiced up with bass and organ)  but it's more funky, upbeat and groovy then for instance "Running". I personally really like this style. :-)  Vocals are different too; this song features some rapping parts.
The structure of the song itself is a bit different too, somewhere half-way the song shifts into a different section, which will eventually lead to the final singing part and the climax of the song.
Listen to this one with headphones and the volume crancked way up!

Note to Rob: I've added an extra organ on some parts, it's more on the foreground and it adds a lot to the song I think. :) Thanks for the tip!

And in case you are wondering: I couldn't post the lyrics this time, it went beyond the amount of characters Acidplanet allows. :P

Title: Oostrum music Corner
Post by: mrline on January 30, 2006, 11:11:50 PM
Thnx for the feedback. :)

You're right, there's still similarities with my former stuff. It's still my style of course. ;) I actually came up with that chorus and the verses about six months ago, but I never made a full song of it until now. :)
As for the end, keep in mind this is still a amateur recording, I can't mess too much with the volume of the instruments. It will cause distortion and such since there's lots of music- and vocal layers during the last part. It's pretty hard to find the right balance (I had to lower the volume of the organ already to prevent distortion). :(

But thanks for your comments, glad you liked it! :)

Ok, I just reviewed the song, gave it a 9 (what a suprise...). Go read it :P I can tell you it's one of my favourite songs, along with Denail, Reveal and Off to war again ;)

To Numan:

You say our style is a bit like Superister, right? I just listenned to some songs of them, but I think it's way more experiemental and lesser accesable, compared to our songs :) Still it's great music :D

Title: Oostrum music Corner
Post by: Numan on February 02, 2006, 07:48:02 PM
It is indeed more experimental but the music of you and your Bro
reminds me sometimes of them... :)

Did you ever listen to; "Radio" and "She was naked"?
These songs were (little) hits in the early seventees and are
more easy accessible to listen...

But a song called "WOW" is very experimental music with flute,
synthesizers and sometimes also even some Dutch words...
Supersister is maybe also interesting for Highwire in combination with Camel,
it seems they were influenced by them,
read it here:

http://www.progwereld.org/cd-recensies/supersister.htm (http://www.progwereld.org/cd-recensies/supersister.htm)

I did work some overtime but not gonna write very long reviews anymore, sorry dudes...
This song has some very good parts but I'm an old fashioned guy and don't really  liked the rap parts,
the piano was very good indeed though, rating: 8... :)

NO! Let's get it over with! :D

Nice song but too much vocals indeed...
I can't find words anymore lately for long reviews but I sure liked it...
Your voice is sometimes a little less good but your instrumental music is good,
I liked the piano and keyboard parts very much...
Rating: 7... :)

Well thanks for the review, this kind of comments are enough for me :)
In the future songs I probably not gonna sing anymore (not sure yet, have to experimental with that), and will replace it with more intrumental & rap + talk :P Not sure if you gonna like that tho :P Too bad tho, cuz I had written some (good) songs which had a lot of singing..and I'm not planning to let Mrline sing all my songs (sorry lol), since I want it to be "my" song lol.

I think you shouldn't trow out all the singing, just stay within the vocal range you're comfortable with (don't go too high yet, it takes practice to expand range ;) ).

Numan, thnx for your comments. :) Heh I figured you wouldn't really like the rap-parts, but you should be a bit open-minded to different vocal styles. ;) The lyrics aren't just some silly BS about money and ho's, they have a meaning. :P

EDIT: I'm having ideas for about 3 more songs... Guess having a keyboard in my room really gives me a lot of inspiration.  :cool2:

EDIT2: thnx for your review Maartn. :)

Hey, I might be a little old fashioned but I'm not a conservative old VVD bastard... :biggrin2:
I didn't really listen to the lyrics yet but the way I know you
I already knew that it wasn't about dancing in disco's and butterflies... ;)

Sometimes I like rap in combination with rock, like the Red Hot Chili Peppers,
that kind of stuff, maybe I will get use to this song if I play it more often...

Review; Ten Years - Soundtrack from Ten Years Map - Van Oostrum Bro's:

Well, it's probably the shortest song they ever made but also one of their best;
they start with a nice poppy rhythym that is quickly building up
a sort of excitement and action piece of music with a lot of suspense,
when they begin the vocals it is really fabulous especially when you hear this song
in the game while you're shooting your way out of there...

I hope they will make more songs like this or a long version of this song
would also rock for sure, the rating is a 9,
Congratz Bro's!  :)

Sorry! :excl:
A bit late but am I the only one who's giving a review here?
Come on Duke Dudes, you don't have to have musical talent to write a review,
just tell if you like it or not and the Bro's will be happy... :)

Well, I sure like it, like they said themselves somewhere in the song;
IT'S BIZARRE! :biggrin2:
Strange melody with a lot of variety and real creepy voices,
just how I like it and how do you like the lyrics;
"Throwing A Christmas Tree In The Water?"
What kind of a brain would come up with that?
I thought only Frank Zappa could write such lyrics but no,
these Bro's have a strange kind of talent too!
The piano and vocals sounds wonderful and the variety of the song is really good,
it didn't bore me one second and it was funny from the beginning till the end...

Keep on going with this, it's getting better every time,
I think you two are at your best with funny music, it's unique!    :cool2:

EDIT:
I forgot the rating BTW...
This song's worth a:

... 9! ...

Here's something I did today, someone at a SOAD-forum posted an instrumental track of the SOAD-song "Roulette" (a very nice and quiet acoustic ballad) and I added vocals to it. Features harmonzing with layered vocals, it creates a very sweet and gentle vibe. :)

Here's the link:

http://www.megaupload.com/nl/?d=4FM6VRCD (http://www.megaupload.com/nl/?d=4FM6VRCD)

This is how mega-upload works btw: you have to wait about 40 seconds while the site prepairs the dowload. Wait, click away all adds and pop-ups and then click on the dowload button (on the upper right of your screen).

If you still can't get it to work, I'm willing to put it on Acidplanet for you people. ;)

I really like the gentle singing style, it does fit with the song. Acutally I think this one of the best vocals I've heard so far from you  Love the harmonizing, I wish I could do it in such a sweet way.

So: (http://www.soadfans.com/modules/PNphpBB2/images/smiles/yourock.gif)

...Anyway, I think you should add it in your acidplanet acount, since some people seem to have trouble with the mega site. And anyway...you already had some covers over there ;)

Yeah our real masterpieces are "Off to war again" or "Time is flying away" (both ballad-like lol :P), but it's a perfect song to play when you're in a good and happy mood. To me it's one of my favourite songs ATM, and I think Merlijn and I should do more  collaboration in the future.

Anyway thanks for the comments :)

Just finished a song (totally written by me again :)).

Habit (http://www.acidplanet.com/artist.asp?PID=763507&t=9708)

This time a different style then anything I've ever done before. It's a funky upbeat tune with organ and bass as main intruments. Vocals are this time mostly talking / rappin', but there is stil some singing on the background too (all done by me). Personnally I really enjoy this style, it sounds very catchy and has a funky feel. (my personal favourite along with "Time is Flying Away").

Lyrics speak for themselves, so no need to explain :)  Hope you'll enjoy.

The one you want record tomorrow sounds promising too (Y)

As for my future songs: actually I've alot in my head, but currently I'm working on about 2 songs (one real ballad, one a epic-ballad), one is pretty easy to record, so I hope I might be inspired enough to record it in a few weeks :)

Thanks Numan! Heh, I already thought you wouldn't really like the rapping ;)

Merlijn, here is your review:

Quote
Looks like this is one of your calmest and darkest ballads (could be compared with "circles" & the cover "stirb night vor mir"). I really like the piano with the reverb, this recording is probably your most "professional" sounding one. I love the piano melody in the start and after the bridge. Vocals are simply great, it fits very good, for most part I can follow what you say (or rather sing)  so it's a pretty good job. This song has one of your best melodics & vocals yet, so once again I'll give a 9 (what a suprise...)., go you!  :P

Couldn't help of being f*cking jealoush tho, seeing as you're a much better singer then me  :S
Ah well...go you! :P

To everyone reading this : listen to that song at least once or die. Just click on the link, right now. @ Mrline : I think its by far your best song, even better than Reveal which I thought couldnt be overdone by so far. The first seconds of that new song set the mood, then the melody comes in and remains awesome all along and the vocals are perfect, they just fit so well. Just like Maarten I also got that feeling of professionalism, its just flawless. Way to go.

http://www.acidplanet.com/artist.asp?PID=806696&t=8172 (http://www.acidplanet.com/artist.asp?PID=806696&t=8172)

It's different then my other songs, becouse it's a collaboration project, and it features real guitars this time, played by someone from Plymouth (internet is really a wonderfull invention, you can create music with people from an entirely different country with ease lol).

It's a melodic, almost epic metal song (clocking over 5 minutes), combining atmospheric melodies with heavy guitar-riffs.

The line-up:
Adrian Deans (Adey)  - lead and rythm guitars
Merlijn van Oostrum - vocals and keyboards
Maarten van Oostrum - drums and backing vocals

Enjoy! And leave some comments..

Update, I have recorded some new stuff!

1000 miles an hour:
http://www.acidplanet.com/artist.asp?PID=911876&t=3781 (http://www.acidplanet.com/artist.asp?PID=911876&t=3781)

6 minute rocking song with some twists and turns along the way. It's more experimental then most of my songs, and there are more organs the usual.
Personally I'm very proud of the second half of this song, especially the solo: to me it's one of the best things I've written so far.

I know only a few people react on this kind of topics here, but please listen and leave some comments. :P

As an extra, I also recorded a small piano piece called The horizon turns black
(yes that sounds goth doesn't it? :P):

Ahh, more crazy Oostrum music!
1000 miles an hour has some interesting melodies, almost sounding oriental at times. I love the turn it makes at about 2:00 and then returns back to the marching riff.

Progressive and funny. You're moving towards fusion-music/prog realm. Keep it up!

The horizon turns black is absolutely enchanting! Beautiful!

looking forward to hear more of your music

Staying awake: http://www.acidplanet.com/artist.asp?PID=944119&t=5219 (http://www.acidplanet.com/artist.asp?PID=944119&t=5219)

Catchy, upbeat & funky/"rocky" tune. Vocals are there, but I'm mostly proud of the music here

Thunderstorms: http://www.acidplanet.com/artist.asp?PID=944126&t=9695 (http://www.acidplanet.com/artist.asp?PID=944126&t=9695)

This instrumental is actually a re-make of "War is on!", but this one has alot more weird synth/electronica stuff, and the structure is different (some parts of "war is on!" are gone). And the quality is alot better here.

While I'm learning guitar, it's still all keyboard tho.

Hope you'll enjoy it!
And I hope anyone cares to reply :P

Lollers, triplle post!111

You believe: http://www.acidplanet.com/artist.asp?PID=952283&t=3868 (http://www.acidplanet.com/artist.asp?PID=952283&t=3868)

A new song once again. By far my longest song I've written so far (over 7 minutes!). It has soft parts, and some more experimental parts with some solo's. Overall, I'm really proud of this one :) Maybe my best song so far.

Please check it out and reply for a change!  ^_^

A new track, called "Abducted". Check it out now. You won't regret it.

(it's mostly instrumental, so even Sang should listen to it. ;) )

^I'd say it's clearly one of your best (y) Nice rocking feeling, and it was cool that I could play a solo in it too :D

Here are my most recent recordings btw:

1000 miles an hour - very nice keys; I like the softer parts, like the one at about 2'05". The second half is great, indeed! ^_^ Only the bass is kinda generic (maybe except the solo parts); the same thing goes for percussion.

The horizon turns black - nice, but to me, it just screams for an organ backup!

Staying Awake - really dynamic song, cool basswork; I`d move the vocals more to the background, as the instruments should play the main role, just like you noticed!

Thunderstorms - actually, this is more like it, for me at least! Well, I`m just more into electronica, I guess. I`d expose the piano a bit more, as it adds a lot to the uniquity. It sounds a bit Duke-ish, kind of.

You believe - don`t get me wrong, it`s an awesome song, great vocals and all, but I think it could still be better. I don`t know, maybe some more variety with instruments? I`d change the organ at 4'10" to something deeper, maybe church or Reed organ, and replace the pad-like stuff in the background with something more orchestral and with an attack, so that the song would be more dynamic. It`s a bit too soft, overall. Well, that`s just my opinion.

Abducted - Woo-hoo... I kept re-playing this one almost to the verge of insanity, to hear what exactly is not right with it. All this glitchy, ambient stuff in the beginning and then a clear piano suddenly? I think the trance-ish central melodic line of the keys could do with some kind of echo/delay, the piano bassline replaced with acidy synth, plus bass and layers minus percussion, so that the first part would sound more industrial. And 3'10" is, composition-wise, a perfect time for the clear, classical sound to begin; the change could be exposed more, and the piano between 3'10" and 4'10" could be even louder and with faster decay, for an increased contrast. Then, I`d switch back to echoed keys plus some ambient pads when the vocals begin.

Maybe it`s too much of theorising and it all would be too drastical and not your style, but I can`t help it; the rhythm of your keyboard on this one is really electronic and it sounds like it should be an ambient/industrial song to me. I don`t know, now that I`m listening to it, maybe you should just remove the ambience in the intro; the beginning sounded wrong to me and everything else was build around that. I`d also replace the synthy background thingy at 5'16" with a violin; I think it would sound crazy!

OK, I`ll listen to it once again. Just once. Aaarghh...

Wow, someone actually replies on 6 song in one post (although we get MSN-replies from Rob too :D)

Thanks alot man, it's good to hear other opinions. Guess our taste differce alot, becouse (for example), the organ solo in "You believe" is meant to be like this. "Raw and sharp" sounding. I like it that way :) And it's the song where I use the most variation with sounds (spend over 3 hours with recording the instrumental!)...but understand your point of view :)

And yeah, I guess "Thunderstorms" comes closest to your sound (more electronic indeed), so I understand why you dig it so much :D

"Staying awake", the vocals aren't mixed that high I think, but I want it loud enough, so it is a bit more understand-able what the lyrics are about. Although I admit I'm not so good at english :P

Anyway thanks again, didn't expected so much reviews in one time hehe! :D  (y)

The stuff you guys make is just not really my cup of tea and I'm not going to spam this thread with stuff like that - which is why I don't reply. You guys just keep on doing what you do, but please don't bump your thread every week asking for comments. If people want to comment, they will. If people comment because you made some remark it's likely out of pity - which isn't a good thing.

That said, carry on :o

That's just stupid. I am sure they are okay with it not being your cup of tea, but saying that they are whining for replies is over the top.
I am sure that if you composed a piece, you'd like to hear what people think about it. Musicians like to get others opinions on their works, so that they can improve. It's the same as with mappers. And replies being out of pity is as far from the truth as it can get, at least when I reply. I always say my honest opinion especially in music, since that is my passion. As for bumping threads, its necessary so they don't gather dust. Sometimes, people invoulentary overlook threads and a bumping can remind them that there is something new on the way.

And "carry on", what is that supposed to mean? You feel you delivered a tasty insult?
Ridiculous.

Revenant nailed it - I put a lot of effort in composing and recording music so I'd like to know what other people think of it... Just be constructive like Felicius. :)

Felicius: thanks for those comments! Those comments about Abducted: I could create an alternative version which is more electronic, but I think this version is great already.. I just like my music to be piano-based, even when the rythm and melody have a trance-vibe... There is a sort of trance-vibe going on, but I don't want it to be generic electronic music, which is why I used a clean piano as main-instrument.. But it's worth trying, thanks for the tip! :)

Listened to Merlijns Abducted:

I love those Arpeggios at 02:20, and this is where the song really starts IMO

And at 04:10 I get that mixed feeling... not sure if its sad or happy atompshere there. It kind of slides back and forth. Nice singing too, your style in this song reminds me a bit of a Jethro Tull song I heard.

Nice transfer at 05:57

And Maarten's solo is nice!

So that was the praises, now for the suggestions for improvement:

Try not to play too staccato. It kind of sounds like theme park merry-go-round tunes at some points(not often fortunately). Also, I'm not a fan of powerchords(fifth chords) on the piano or any guitar-like riffing on piano. But that's just my personal taste. IMO, you guys should get a guitar to record those parts with cause some of those riffs would sound awesome on a guitar!

Other than that I don't have many suggestions, except from this and it is for both of you: Get a software studio  and a way to record from keyboard to computer. That way, you won't have to drum the drum patterns by hand on the keyboard and thus you will have much more consistency in the rhythm. I can hear that sometimes, you're increasing or decreasing the tempo at places. But after all, drumming and keeping a rhythm on the keyboard is fucking HARD and you're both good at it nevertheless.

As for Maartens newest song, I already checked it out and told you my opinions over MSN.

I still have to point out that all your compositions are being cursed by your cheap sounding keyboards.

They would be so much better if they were recorded on more 'true' instruments.

That said: Abducted is one the better pieces I have listened to so far. It's very proggy and symphonic. The structure is great and everything feels in the right place. I still have to curse the synthhorns at the start.

The sudden interruption by the fast piano arpeggio's is great. (but you know who on this forum is capable of playing even faster. :P) It really finishes up the 'classical mood'.

Especially the main piano melody does it. Quite something I should have come up with if I had the chance. I really should make a new symphonical piece to compete against you guys again. :)

The fast arpeggio part is also my favourite part, esp. with all the different leads joining in.. :)

A new updated version of my old song "War!". This is also my debute as guitarist from what I've uploaded here, but of course, the keyboards are still there. Wow major bumb here..

Anyway, Maarten and I haven't exactly stopped creating music. In fact, we joined forces and created an entire album. It's pretty different then most of the stuff we've posted before: it's more of a hard-rock approach this time around. Agressive in-your-face guitar riffs (real guitars), weird keyboard solo's, melodic moments.. it's all there.

Long time nog post here....but we're still bussy jamming/recording music
We've a myspace by now:

Me and my brother have formed this little 2-man 'band': The Eastrums.
The music is a little hard to describe, it's rock but it's quite experimental at times (and simple and catchy at other times)

Link to our myspace: www.myspace.com/theeastrums  (http://www.myspace.com/theeastrums)
There's 4 songs on this page:

-I am the monster is a fast rocker written by us both. (this is the full version which you've partly heard in Clear the Coast hotel ;))
-Delaying is a more laid-back song with a bit of a reaggea-feel, written and performed by Me
-Innocence is written and performed by Merlijn, it's a longer and more epic song with a very bombastic ending.
-The murder is a short, but intense intstrumental track written by us both.

We hope you guys will enjoy the music. Don't forget to leave some comments!  ;D

The keyboard part around 40 seconds reminds me of a song.. Can't remember the exact title but there was a midi of it in Borg Nukem, surely someone is bound to know what I'm talking about.

Anyway, it sounds okay - Mixing heavy/soft elements and having a keyboard in there is something that I don't see in high school bands around here so thank god for that. Guitar riffs didn't seem particularly creative though - I realize that it's probably hard to compose a classic, memorable riff but right now it just doesn't sound "unique", you know? Without the keyboard (and let's be honest, your keyboard skills aren't that superb, no offense) it'd sound pretty much like any other high school band: Songs that sound entirely random and show no or very little songwriting skills.

Long story short it doesn't sound bad, but not extraordinarily good either..

You try singing + keyboarding at same time & making piano fills. It's not as easy as you might think ;)

It's only a small part of a song, and long instrumental parts = called progresive ;) (although...progresive has to be your cup of tea to accept it)

Thanks for reacting - some of your points match with what the critical points from the jury. They thought the band wasn't 'together' enough yet (which makes sense, this was only our 2nd gig) and that some songs had too many different parts. But the latter is a matter of taste, I personally love progressive music with lots of changes, so this is reflected in the way I write music.

As for the 'highschoolband' remark, I find that somewhat insulting. You do realize that you can't the guitars very well in the vid right? This is because of bad sound quality, so you could have guessed that the real thing sounded a lot more impressive. The guitarist on the right actually plays a great solo with an awesome tapping-sequence, but alas you can't hear it very well (and the recording makes it seem like the piano plays the main part during the solo, which wasn't the case, I merely played the chords to support the guitarsolo, with some improvised fills to make it more interesting).

I don't know what's so wrong with my pianoplaying either, this is actually one of the things the jury (and most people who where there) really liked. I'm self thought, so naturally I don't have the skills of a classical pianoplayer, but skills are only a small part of what makes a good musician. The ability to create music and a distinctive style that serves the song is more important in the end. IMO of course.

End yes, the music might feel a little random, but remember that it's only the last part of the song. You don't have the context of the entire song, so you can't really judge the songwriting.
For instance, the 'like sheep' chant is a theme that keeps reoccuring, you might call it the chorus of the song (the final chant is a more agressive variation on on the chorus, but it's still connected since it has the same words and a similar delivery). The riff during the first 'like sheep' chant is also the intro of the song. The 'heavy parts suddenly stops and gives way to quiet piano' is a dynamic that keeps coming back and runs like a red line through the song. Etc etc.

Like I said, you can check the whole song on my acidplanet-account.
And besides that, I think this final part builds up nicely to it's climax (the 'like sheep' chant), with the quiet piano-passage transforming into the solo part, which gradually speeds up and gets more agressive (again, you can't hear the solo properly so the idea gets a bit lost I guess) and then plunges into the heavy riffage..

Ok, long reply I know. I just wanted you to let you know that we know what we are doing, and I'm pretty proud of what we've achieved. ;)

Title: Re: Oostrum music Corner

I like it. The band's really tight despite being so short together and it's awesome to see you guys shine. :D

It sounds very powerful actually!

And 'highschoolband'? Sorry Sang, I don't know to which highschool you went, but I'm guessing some kind of conservatory. Merlijn may excell more in his writings than his self-taught skills (Like he pointed out), but the drummer and that solo-guitarist are definately skilled. I think it's a potential balance. This may seem like some kind of musicians backing up musicians-thing, but... No, it's not.

In my experience, most highly skilled musicians I have known are average songwriters, and vice-versa. In my personal music collection I mostly admire the albums by average musicians but striking deliverers. The occasional virtuoso CD is usually a soulless vehicle on which the mastermusicians merely show their skills.

Anyways, Oostrum dude, let me guess: Rave reviews for your band, but a generic Maroon-5-esque pop group won the contest? With your genre, it'll probably happen again time from time. Achieving is hard with this genre, and it's pretty unfair. I worked 4 years on progressive rock, but once I joined a more commercially oriented band I already worked myself past the same point achieved with the former in about 5 months. Just crazy, but that's how it is. I hope you guys get your stuff moving, because I like it. :)

You've guessed it.  ^_^ But the band who actually won wasn't that bad, they made dutch pop which ocasionally sounded like Acda & De Munnick, the music was pretty nice. I thought their lyrics were a tad too sappy though ("Ik zocht een schelp maar vond een parel.. ik vond jooouuuu", that kind of stuff :P).
Oh well, we had the best crowd response and got the most votes from the public, and that's more important. :)

And yeah, everyone in the band is quite skilled (save for the bassist maybe), both guitarists can rip out great solo's on the spot, it's really fun jamming with them. The writing department lacks a little though - they write good passages but often struggle to put into the context of a full song. I guess this will be my job mostly.  :p

EDIT: here's a video from the same gig, featuring a solo from the other guitarist, obviously inspired by Pink Floyd:

Hmm, it's cool to see you guys perform. I felt that the song 'Hiding' had a good drive to it, but I can see that you should work on your stage presence a little bit more.

There are a couple of things that I wish to SQUEEZE out of you guys! Crack my skull if I'm being a snob, but
 • Rehearse more often! Being a reasonably tight musician doesn't make you a tight band!
 • Get (albeit slightly) DRUNK on stage at least once. The performance might suffer, but sometimes the audience just enjoys seeing musicians having fun! When you're loosened up by the glorious golden beverage (that's beer, in case you sick fucks think of something else). Explore the border between practical musicianship with a stiff attitude and lousy musicians having fun. Sometimes you'll get to the break-even after a beer or three, sometimes you just need to get tanked. :) I know that you guys don't want to be a clown-act, but with more serious music it's best to maintain the audience's attention with some comfort.
 • Command the drummer to kick in earlier with the GA jam. He really gets the whole thing going at 3:30.

Writing this stuff down made me realise that you guys are trying to do the same thing onstage as you are doing when recording stuff at home. Listening back to my own live performances (yes, you guys have got me going right now) makes me realise that I have done the same thing a lot in the past. When you're recording something on your own, the sky is the limit and you can jam in all the notes you want! But now you guys are in a quartet so you might want to leave some room for eachother. Try the "Uh, I'll do a solo first. When I feel content with it I'll nod towards you and you can have a go. Then, when you're ready, tap the chick's shoulder and let her do a solo."-approach. :)

I couldn't really leave any impressions on the musicianship because the sound quality was awful. (The dreaded camera microphones). The dummer plays pretty tight though, and the girl seems to be twanging some nice chords.

I'm not belittling you guys, I'm just sharing my experiences with that listener-friendly band I am in. I really want to apply them to a prog rock band sometime in the future hopfully. Keep it up. :)

Heh thanks for reacting. :) It's the first time ever we've played in front of an audience with this band, so naturally stage prescense is something that will (or at least should) improve over time. And I actually already drunk quite a few beers at that point haha.  ^_^
With the GA jam you can see that we really get into it somewhere half-way, it's not technically flawless but IMO you can see that we're having fun.
The audience wasn't a rock-audience btw, it was a celebration of our parents being together for 25 years (G and A are the actual initials of their names, Gerrit en Ans ), and we played for them. Not really the kind of crowd that appreciates proggy rock, but our parents loved it and that's what counts. :P
But the G A thing isn't standard repertiore, it's mostly improvised.

EDIT: we also still search for a bass-player, and that will definately help the tightness. :)

Thanks for the comments, Rob! :) Merlijn answered all things, so there is no need to add more I think..
Anyway in about 2 weeks a bassist will come, and we'll see if he fits or not :)

Original song "hold you down" :

A song mainly written by me, and performed by me & Merlijn.
It's just me on the acoustic guitar & singing, and Merlijn playing the piano.
It's not flawless, but thought it was cool enough to share it :)

Listened to "I'm the monster" for a brief moment. Sounds pretty cool, your vocals aren't really that great BUT! you do sing unlike anyone else I've ever heard, which actually gives it a lot of charm, unlike all those non-risktaking pussies who either grunt or stick to what they learned during their singing lessons. So, I like the vocals!

Drum didn't really sound that great, but I guess it's more of a problem with the drumkit than the actual drummer.

Finally it kindof bothered me how the song was pretty "wild" yet everyone stood there completely stiff and inactive. Well, everyone apart from you that is. When all band members do it, it all makes it jolly good fun. When only one person does it though, he becomes "that guy". That guy who feels like he's a globally loved and popular rockstar.

edit: actually I might be mistaken about that last bit - by "that guy" I was referring to the guitarist, but now that I see some closer shots in Hiding it seems you may actually be the keyboardman? Not sure!

Heh I think we've nailed 'Hiding' and especially '42'  it wasn't a flawless gig, but a great one for a first gig IMO.

@ Sang: 42 features some more 'traditional', melodic vocals, I think I did a great vocal performance on that song. And the vocal harmonies on 'Hiding' went pretty well too.
I'm the monster is more like an anti-melody song. :P And yeah, it's not really conventional, but it's a fun song to play.  ^_^

On I'm the monster I'm behind the keyboard and Maarten is 'that guy', on the other 3 songs we switched places.
And you're right about the other band-members: they should move a lot more and join the fun. :P

And thanks for taking the time to listen and comment.  (y)

I checked the videos out. Not bad for a first-time gig. The sound quality is a massacre when it comes to distorted riffs (lots of scratching, zero note distinguishing) but the crowd seemed to like it! You guys should try to fetch a recording from the mixing table next time; it might have spared the bass guitar!

Heh, you guys kicking off at 'Monster' definitely had the "Uhhh, ok, here we go i guess" atmosphere all along with the last minute "ohshitohshit"-guitar tuning. Nervously kicking in on the first gig with a new band. :D

It's probably the camera recording, but the keyboard sounded CHEAP; and that's a shame because the playing itself seems to be in order. A reasonable electric piano costs about 600 or 700 euros. It's really worth it; especially with a sustain pedal.

As for the material itself; it's alright. I don't think the live recording does a lot of justice to them and a lot of notes are simply drowned. Lots of stuff is apparantly happening to the keyboard and the bass but I mostly get white noise from those. Still, it appears to be a good start. Miles better than how I began as far as I'm concerned. :)

The song has no real harmony and doesn't focus on melody at all: it's all about the monotone, angry delivery.

Heh, that's absolutely true. :)
I think the sound quality from the camera is pretty good for a bootleg, it's mostly the soundguy who screwed up on several occasions (those people all work on voluntary basis, so they're probably no professionals).

Quote
As for the material itself; it's alright.

I personally see '42' as one of the best things I've written in a while (that song is almost completely composed by me), I just love how the contrast between the verses and the chorus worked out, especially live. :)

Thanks for commenting!

Hehe you mean the first seconds I guess? I someone fucked up the E chords, or the guitar wasn't 100% right tuned (tho I did tune the god damn thing :P). Oh well after that part it was rocking and made it up for it IMO :)

Well...the sound was alot sharper then it should be (the place where we played had a cool sound, but not brilliant when it comes to the keyboards too..) + camera recording made bit more sharper too (although, IMO, like as Merlijn said, it's decent quality camera).
Oh well, if this band will get things going on more, I don't think it's a bad idea to buy a new one indeed, with more freedom of effects etc. :)

@ Sang: Well...you could hardly take out a kind of melody in the vocals, or did you? It's mostly raw.."shouting" :P
Anyway thanks for the comments. I was indeed "that guy" in the first video. Well Merlijn replied already so I won't repeat, heh :P

Raw shouting doesn't negate the presence of a melody or the other way around. Also I don't see how "I'm the monster" is a song without melody. It's wild and somewhat aggressive, sure, but obviously it's melodic. If you want to see a (thankfully joke) band with songs without any melody then check out Impaled Northern Moonforest.

Post by: mrline on June 20, 2010, 06:13:44 PM
ok, just a little update and some place to vent a bit I guess. :)
We've got ourselves a pretty solid bassplayer, and he learns playing along to every song impressively fast. More good news: better keyboard! So we're definately moving forward all the time, I think our band has the potential to grow into something pretty epic.

We had a pretty cool gig at Amsterdam yesterday, which also was the debut of our bassplayer. Anyway, it started off a little sloppy, but we absolutely nailed the last 2 songs (Souls and I am the monster)! I am the monster is a great closer, as it literally ends with a bang.  ^_^ It also became a lot heavier since it's first incarnation: much heavier vocals and drums and a pretty nasty bass-line to back it up. Souls also turns out to be a quite good livesong, that song always gets a lot of positive responses. I still think it's our best song yet, and it's a lot of fun to play!  ^_^ Can't wait to play it again in front of a crowd.

No vids this time, but we hope to get some quality vids at our next gig (which is in 2 weeks).

Do you guys get paid (a nominal fee or something) or are you doing this solely to advertise your band?

Title: Re: Oostrum music Corner
Post by: mrline on June 23, 2010, 12:19:22 AM
At this point we don't get paid, we actually loose money by performing lol. For me, it's more about getting recognized as a good musician and growing personally as a songwriter and performer at this point. And I just love writing music and playing in front of a crowd, and of course hanging out with the band is great as well. :)
If there ever will be a point were we can get big enough to ask money for our performances - well that would be fucking awesome. But we first have to get our name out there, obviously. I think we're all willing to put a lot of time and effort in this band, so who knows..

Always ask for compensation on transport costs! Unless the organisers are cocky faggots or you get to do a really cool gig (radio or a great festival) it's never a bad thing to ask for this. :)

Professionally filmed material of Calculated!

Go to www.20minutes.nl (http://www.20minutes.nl), scroll down to the video that says 'Calculated' and click!
The site is in Dutch, but the bandname is above the video.
There are LOADS of close-ups of me and my brother, you can take this either as an extra reason to watch or as a warning.  :P

The video lasts 22 minutes, the songs we played are: 42, Delaying, Into the dirt and Souls (in that order).

I'm pretty proud of our band when I see us perform like this, so enjoy and leave some comments!  :)

Btw, is the integral your official logo or something?

Title: Re: Oostrum music Corner
Post by: Maartn on June 24, 2011, 04:45:35 AM
Really? I only thought the few heavy parts seemed Metallica-ish and thats it :) We're mostly inspired by prog-rock bands and/or bands from the seventies when synthesizer/keyboards and quite some use  of vocal harmony was more common :P

It's really cool to see you guys comment, as we "know" you for years with the community (I admit, posts of me these days are rare, but I still check the forums when I've the little spare time) :P

I actually think the vocals are pretty good...but not as strong as the other elements (composition, instrumentals).  I'm guessing they would be perfectly happy to have a specialist doing the vocals so they could focus on the other stuff, but I could be wrong.

Title: Re: Oostrum music Corner
Post by: mrline on June 24, 2011, 10:52:30 PM
That's interesting, people usually cite the vocals (and, more particulary, the 2 part harmonies) as one of the strongest points of the band. Everyone has a different opinion though, and thanks for sharing yours!  -_-

BTW, this performance is actually already 3 months old, and the band has already improved since then, vocals included. You can check the latest performance of 'Into the dirt' and compare if you're interested: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VnzrFhzKmQc (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VnzrFhzKmQc)
(sound quality is again a lot weaker though)

Quote

Nah, we already have the perfect line-up for this kind of music now. Adding more people probably wouldn't be a good idea. Besides, I'm writing the lyrics and I don't want someone else to sing them since they have a personal meaning for me.

No offense again, but I think the vocals are out of tune many times in the first video (http://static.betazeta.com/img.chw.net/foro/smilies/uy.gif)

Anyway, I definitely heard some improvement in the second video.

IMHO the strongest points of your band is the keyboard and composition. Guitar is also good.

At the moment, we're at the 9th place (there's 30 bands competing in total, so that's not bad at all :p). To get to the finals, we need to make it to the 6th spot though..

So I'm going to ask you guys to vote once more, or even every day.  (y)

The gap has been reduced to 58 votes in 1 week.. still 1 week left, so it IS possible.

Bumping this topic "for old times sake"
We finished recording a new EP! You can stream the whole thing online:

Have fun listening!

The only small downside is that soundcloud automatically turns the audio files into 128 kb/s mp3's, but so far the average listener doesn't seem to mind, so don't let that stop you. :)

Thanks! :)

We recently went into the studio again to record 2 more songs, and I have a real good feeling about those sessions. Songs will be released later this year (still need proper mixing, mastering etc).

That is really cool! I like your new style and absolutely love the T-Rex stuff! Since I was new here you were kind of obsessed with t-rexes so it´s really cool that you merged these two things in one greater!
