1  Duke Nukem / Duke Nukem 3D Editing / Switch/Touchplate Door Then Lock on: February 26, 2009, 09:39:39 PM
I've decided to brush off the old build editor and make some maps again after years of being out of practice. I've forgotten how fun it was. However, I've also forgotten how to do a bunch of things. Some things I've never even learned. Like this problem:

I'm trying to make a door that needs a switch to open it. I've done that just fine. But on the other side of the door I want there to be a touchplate that closes the door behind me. I've also got this. What I need is for the door to not be able to be opened again after stepping onto the touchplate so that walking over the touchplate a second time doesn't work and you're stuck on the other side. How do I do this? Something to do with ActivatorLocked?

Also, is it possible that when I walk on the touchplate it opens another door at the end of the hall? I'm not sure if this is possible because they'd have to share the same door ID and both doors would be opened/closed by using the switch. Unless I had the second one open beforehand, maybe? Or is it possible to use two touchplates on the same sector controlling two different activators/masterswitches?
2  Duke Nukem / Duke Nukem Main / DN64 on the Wii Video (Virtual Console) on: November 19, 2008, 01:48:30 AM
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3Ps70OrlpXU

Thought it would be safer to post here than on the 3DR forums. I injected the ROM into the Sin & Punishment N64 Virtual Console WAD file and altered the banner and sound for the channel and installed it via Wad Manager 1.3. Not perfect, but playable. The controls are a little tricky and you can't save your game because the VC doesn't support controller pak memory. Also you can see some sprites through walls.

I made the channel banner and sound myself. I took a sound bite from Megadeth's Grabbag and the Duke line is just from the Goodies folder on the PC CD-ROM. Hope you all like it.

...would be to recreate the beginning of Anomalous Materials from Half-Life with Doom 3. It would be neat to see Black Mesa taken over by demons rather than Xen aliens. Just for the fun of it. (I just finished Doom 3 and its expansion. Quite thankful I don't have to play them anymore)
4  Other topics / Half Life / CS / Orange Box Mistake? on: January 06, 2008, 08:34:48 AM
I just bought my copy today. I open it and what do I find but not one but TWO Quick Reference Cards. Each with their own unique CD Key. Is this a mistake? At first I thought the second key would be for the extra copies of HL2 and EP1, but no. I installed only one cd key and it asked me if I wanted to gift HL2 and EP1 right away. And then immediately after that it installed the other three games. All without asking for a second CD Key. So it must be a mistake, right?

If so I have 2 copies of The Orange Box for the price of one. I could sell the key and get my money back and have it for free!
5  Duke Nukem / Duke Nukem Main / Duke Nukem Grabbag Mega-Mix on: December 29, 2007, 12:55:47 AM
Over the past 2 days I've been busy on this. It was originally only suppsed to be a regular Grabbag track but then I thought it would be cool to blend all the various versions of Duke Nukem themes that have been made (console ports, covers, etc), plus my own interpretations here and there. If one is missing it's because I forgot it, didn't know about it, or couldn't play it.

I recommend the OGG for smaller file size and superior quality.

OGG (Quality 3):

PS- This is all recorded from scratch. I didn't use any clips form existing songs or anything.

EDIT: I've removed the links temporarily until further notice. Sorry to those who haven't heard it yet but I will make them available again after the new year for reasons I must keep secret for now. I'll let you all know why by then. Again sorry about this. I'm glad that everyone enjoyed it so far. Thank you for the words.
6  Duke Nukem / Duke Nukem 3D Editing / Roland SC-55 GS Soundtrack on: December 19, 2007, 05:57:53 PM
I posted this on the 3D Realms forums as well. This is the Duke Soundtrack as it was meant to be heard at its best from the Roland Sound Canvas SC-55 GS Module in-game in 1996. I figured that while we were waiting for PeteB to finish his tracks or Mark McWane there could be something of high quality to use. I'm not too fond of Mark McWane's initial Duke soundtrack release and while waiting for his second it's good to have something. Or if you just want to hear what it was meant to sound like in the first place there's that as well. The sounds are similar to Windows' Default GS MIDI waveset but the samples have twice the quality and effects like chorus and reverb so its still worth picking up. Plus there are pitch shifting effects that don't make it through Windows' GS Waveset like the drums on Alienz. Through the Windows waveset it's just a regular electronic drum kit, but through the SC-55 the snare drum is pitched higher so it sounds more fitting and less overpowering. Just little things like that that ultimately make this version of the soundtrack much better than probably any other MIDI you've heard it on.

But it's still MIDI, so if that bothers you, steer clear.

Duke3D Roland SC-55 GS Soundtrack 121 MB

If you use it in eDuke32 make sure it's the OpenAL version and just plop it into the same directory as your HRP pack ZIP.
