I place my cellphone so that I have to get up to turn the alarm off so I have no trouble getting up.

I also use my cellphone for waking up, but i place it on my light table. Otherwise there is the risk of not hearing it at all.

A ¨funny¨ tip about that: i used to set my cellphone to play a lovely song called ¨waking up¨ for the alarm. but i ended hating that song so much that i decided to change it.

How can you not hear it? Aren't the alarms designed so that they use some specific sound that make you wake up?

I usually hear the first beep, because it is nearly every time integrated into whatever dream I'm having so that I'm basically up before I'm even consciously aware of the alarm.

The sound of my buzzer is something hellish and heart-attack inducing. I avoid using it whenever I can (when I don't HAVE to get up early)

Remarks: Darwin Award candidates on the Kaalfontein to Tembisa run. Trainsurfing has become an often fatal fad around Johannesburg and the ultimate macho thing is to ride on the roof, standing upright while dodging catenary poles and keeping clear of the 3,000 volt cable while the train speeds along at between 80 and 100 km/h. I just don´t hear it (at least, not consciously). You´d laught but it´s a matter of age i guess. When i was 20 i used to work in a place where i had to be there at 8am, for that i had to walk one kilometer to the train station, take a train of about 40 minutes and then walk another 2 kilometers. The alarm was setup at 6.20 AM and the chance of not hearing the first beep was unlikely. I think i´ve arrived late to job two or three times in two years in those times.

Now that i´m 28 i have to arrive this job at 9.00 AM and for that i set my alarm at 7.45 (and that´s already late) and usually end waking up about 8.15, brush my teeth at the same time im dressing up and make a race against time putting my life in risk driving my thin motorbike as fast as i can. And no, i don´t do it purposelly.
