Eduke documentation
« on: February 07, 2004, 02:48:26 AM »
Been relearning Eduke's many commands and quirks.  There's a lot you can forget in two years.  Anyway, I'm writing some of this stuff down as I go along.  I know there's a bunch of you out there probably struggling with Eduke for the first time, or maybe relearning it as I am.  Or maybe you're uberl337 and bored.   In short, there's next to no documentation for Eduke, aside from a couple old 2.0 con guides that (sorry, it's true) still didn't give you a complete feature of even 2.0's capabilities and left a lot of primitives laying out there with big question marks on them.

So please, if you're fiddling around, keep Word open and write down new things that you're learning.  Someday we might have enough examples and explanations to do some kind of document.

Working on a weapon doc myself.

Yeah, some documentation really would prove useful. I can't read much of the new code if any. :b

Doesn't matter how basic.  Wonder if one of those wiki things would be useful.

Yeah, I told Usurper to set me up a command list and I would go through and define how everything works (to my knowledge), and then I would finish up an enemy coding doc (not Eduke, 1.5 but it doesn't matter for enemies, Eduke is used for "extra" functions) that I've been working on for ages.

hmm...

have you experimented (and documented) with making all weapons bullet based, reloading like the pistol and is a control over auto-aiming possible? :)

You could turn off auto-aim in EDuke 2.0 except it didn't work with non-bullet weapons. I've noticed that in 2.1, though, it does affect non-bullet weapons. Here's the code for it:

onevent EVENT_GETAUTOAIMANGLE
  {
   setvar AUTOAIMANGLE 0
  }

It works for both 2.0 and 2.1. What I did was put it in a new CON file I titled weapons.con that has some misc. settings for weapons. No, you may not see the file! :D :P

...that means show it to him then post it here. :D But really, thanks Usurper and others for finally deciding to write up a document telling how to use the primitives.
