I didn't wish you happy birthday because on my birthday I explicitly told you not to buy me a particular game but you bought me it anyway  >:(

On an unrelated topic, you sure do have a long wishlist...

Went to EGX yesturday - had a lot of fun! it was overwhelming as fuck at first but eventually I got my bearings and had fun. I tried VR for the first time and holy shit it was unreal. It definitely isn't some dumb gimmick, it still needs work but you have to experience it for yourself to understand how amazing this stuff is.

There was also some booths with old LAN games set up - most importantly CS1.6, Quake 2 and Doom 2. I played Quake 2 for a bit and was literally untouchable (I died once because 2 others ganged up on me with chainguns and the mouse sensitivity was all fucked) but whoever says you get worse as you get older is lying. Checked out some cool costumes as well, but the coolest was a female Pyramid head from Silent Hill; but it came last for some stupid reason in the competition when it was miles ahead of most of the others.

Ended the day by playing Destiny 2 with my step-brother and his friends; I had zero interest in the AAA game stuff especially given the queues and mostly stuck to the indie/quieter things but they needed a fourth player and another family friend of theirs was too young so I was the 4th up. We played against a group of guys older than them who were giving us shit talk - they even paid for a fast pass to beat the queues.

We beat them 55 - 9; that was the first time I'd ever touched Destiny 2 PvP and I was handicapped severely by using a 360 controller but I only died thrice and still got a higher score than the highest on their team. That was a fun end to the evening (still wouldn't pay money for that game though)

I tried some (in a room that actually moves around in sync with what's happening), and it was pretty cool, but everything was quite blurry. I'm extremely short sighted, but I didn't think that would be an issue because the screens are right in front of your eyes. Turns out that VR use lenses that make the image appear to be from much further away than it actually is (to reduce strain on the eyes).

This doesn't bode well for me.

I'm kinda anxiously waiting for the price of the VR gear to drop down so that I can enjoy Alien Isolation in all its (unofficial) VR glory - that and porn.

Today i took my kids to the ComicCon Argentina event, which is a comic-fans expo/meeting. It was crowded as hell and full of stuff to waste money but I happened to stumble upon Alejandro Burdisio, who is an amazing artist and film director, author of some awe-inspiring paints I used as inspiration for my Southernmost Combine mod. The guy is really friendly and we had a nice conversation, in which i told him about my mod and how he influenced me. He seemed genuinely interested on it and gave me his details so i could show him my work. I bought him a poster and he gifted me another plus signed both for me!

These are the posters he gave me:

This is some how his work. He combines the already existing retro-futurism style with a distinguished argentinean touch. I would build a complete game based on his art if i had time.

We also met this guy who built a lovely miniature of one of his paintings, really cool:

Sounds like a pretty neat dude, and his art is interesting too.

Kinda like a mash-up between blade runner-esque and early/mid 20th century architecture, with some steam-punk elements.

Cool stuff.

Neato. Some of those drawings give me a slight 5th Element vibe; the movie may not be quite so retro but there are definitely similarities, such as the cabs and the McDonald's trucks in the movie.
I can imagine a Bioshock type of game set in that artist's universe.

yep!

I will build some mockups combining my hl2 stuff with combine models -which are very fitting for all the flying machinery- to send them his way. Maybe we end up doing something togheter!

At least I´d love to ask him to draw my mod´s menu background.
