I've never found that trick useful ( I hate the mess ) or handy but I'm happy for the people that are happy with the tutorial :)

oh well with Davox around...
I mean he could even find some sexual context if there was a discussion about coffee-pads ;)

This is the same thing as the hitile/skybox discussion; it's not really a trick but just something that can help making the map better. Like doors, switches, and enemies.

the thing with this trick is u only need to use it when u need it, sometimes if you want a hallway under the ground it will get messy with sprites and this trick will come in handy but its not a trick u should use just to show people "hey look, it's that one trick", also be carefull with not fucking up your map with this trick.

I always make the room I want to be the inside of a house (on which u can also climb on the roof) OUTSIDE the rest of the map, then copy it into the house and apply the effect. Of course u should make sure the part your making OUTSIDE the rest of the map has the same heights as the ground in front of the house. Don't mess around the sector around the house with the effect applied on because the effect will get screwed and you'd have to do everything again. That's why I'd say, SAVE YOUR MAP LOADS OF TIMES WHEN MAKING THIS EFFECT.. to avoid frustrated people here. Thank you.

This effect? Heh... I remember accidentally 'finding' this making a map for Eduke. Though I can only really use it if there is a white sector involved...

V Oh well. Now you've got proof i'm an idiot  :)

Bumping this because I had some spare time today and since I had been willing to learn this trick for quite a while, so I thought I would give it a try (in a test map). I can get it to work minus one glitch :

The wall containing the 'glass pane' (that isn't even a glass pane on the shot but w/e, it's a test map) extends itself to the ceiling / sky like that as if it were a white wall (regardless of whether or not it has the masked wall). It's a one-sided wall too - if I climb onto the roof it all looks normal from behind. I think I followed all the instructions in Zaxtor's link properly, and have tried rebuilding it several times, experimenting with alternatives with no success. Apart from that everything works perfectly, so what am I missing or doing wrong ?

Yeah I think it's a bad cliche that modding is something you only do when you're young; it's not like the second you discover vaginas (or penis!) you automatically realise you were throwing your life away on the PC (some people ARE like that, but they're tools so w/e)

Never mind, I got it working using the tutorial James reuploaded, which was much easier to follow. Thanks.
