Release : Buenos Aires Explosive TRILOGY
« on: May 14, 2007, 05:38:56 PM »

So here it is....the first two incarnations of Buenos Aires explosive... The very first one, the second, and finally Buenos Aires Explosive Remake, the one you all already played and loved/hated.

Play through all of the maps and you'll recognize places in the last one, The remake is like a mixture of both.

I hope you guys enjoy them!! this is to share a little bit more to the community and to make you guys know my history with duke mapping :)

I thought BAER sucked when you first released it, but now I think it's got a pretty good design,  at least compared compared to those 2 other piece of shits.

However the gameplay is still awful.

No he's right the gameplay does kinda suck in a this-is-way-too-fucking-hard kinda way

Not enough ammo or health and there's too many explosions IN YOUR FACE MAN. It's a shame since the map itself is well made and has many awsome effects (like the Tank for example)

The gameplay in the first two versions is annoying, a remake wouldn't be different :P, if it's too hard you can always choose "Piece of cake" skill  ^_^

I don't think the maps are realll really good, but a lot of effort must have been put in (then again, they're your oldies :) ), but tap caps lock a couple of times in order to get the right player height. I have never seen parking meters bigger than my own length.

Edit: I don't want to sound harsh. And apparantly I skipped the remake (which should be the better map) so I'll give that a try later tonight. :)

Yeaaaah that's pretty terrible :/ Explosions in your face, frustrating gameplay (a 3 hour trainride to find a door you can't go through yet, not to mention a giant building with a giant road around it that leads NOWHERE), and bad monster/ammo balance. When I ran into yet another pigcop with bothing but my pistol + 4 ammo I called it a day.

And no more cheeky "try harder or choose an easier skill!!!!!" because that makes no sense ;) Really hard maps are nice, but only if it's clear that the author wanted it to be hard and left some clues here and there on how to get through it (or relies on the player's common sense). Your maps have none of that so they're ANNOYING ANNOYING ANNOYING :)

EDIT: the remake is still pretty fun though, once you get over the annoyances. The busride still rocks :)

AHAAHAH!

But you say that like it's a bad thing! :)

I enjoyed BAEREDX, I didn't play the other two yet, but there are some things I noticed.

Things I liked:
-The tank is awesome!
-The bus ride rocks.
-The car crash at the beginning.
-Lots of great designs and detail
-Launching rockets, blowing things up, watching things get blown up. I'm an old explosion fan, the C4 sprite is my favorite! :)

Things I didn't like:
-Starts off in an almost inescapable deathtrap. It took me about 20 tries to get the right sequence of events to escape alive.
-Really dark sewer-maze thing at the end :(
-The other really dark maze thing with the switches, that eventually explodes if you aren't fast enough.
-Monsters everywhere!
-Not always clear where you need to go next. Lots of wide-open spaces and doors that don't open. I found an invisible blocking wall, which is one of my old pet peeves.

Suggestions (whatever they mean coming from an old map critic who never really created anything himself ;) ):

-Don't abuse the player so much. Playing the map shouldn't be a painful experience.
-Use a few less enemies.
-Put in a tiny bit more health, eh? ;)

Well I just replayed it (the remake) and managed to complete it. Ammo was only an issue at the beginning; due to the low time limit I couldn't grab the shotgun and chaingun aboard the ship so I had to fight the pigcops with the pistol. Thankfully one of them dropped a shotgun for me ;)

Alos thankfully; the explosions in the lighthouse cellar thing were sloppily placed, so I survived the "self-destruction" sequence. Seriously, having a confusing puzzle + 1 minute time limit = not a good combination.

I've seen it a couple of times so it should be somewhere. I'm not at home right now so I can't check until next week.
