Duke Caribbean lost enemy
« on: May 22, 2007, 06:05:00 PM »
Look at this link:

http://www.allgame.com/cg/agg.dll?p=agg&sql=1:23684~T5

It shows some early shots from Caribbean, and a lost enemy can be seen here. IIRC it was called the Iguana Captain, and looks a bit like the Enforcer, but with a net instead of a ripper.

Since I truly don't like the inflatable pig cop thingey (it has an odd graphics, looks too cartoony), this one would have been a better fit. AFAIK in the secret level "Full house" there is a part which reminds to this enemy with signs of "Catch of the net" or whatever.

Do someone knows anything else about this one, how did it coded etc?

I think they look awful and don't suit Duke's theme at all. I'm also glad they changed the art of the troopers.

Oh wow, I never seen those pics before :D Thanks for the link - they actually look pretty interesting. They must of been aiming for an 80s disco style with the Liztroops but I guess they decided making them look like Hotel Porters was better.

Agreed. They're interesting, like all beta stuff - but they don't look right in Duke.

I dunno, I like these lizards with net. I wonder how could they attack me.

I'm interested in that too - it's just that it doesn't look right in Duke's pallette. :) Kinda odd. But if they changed the art it would probably be very cool.

I love the net guys! And yeah, the finished troopers do look better. They're cool this way but it's a little over the top :)

Hate the net guys. They look teh fugly.. But who knows, they could've been more fun to fight than those damn seagulls.

It seems like they only ever made one frame of animation for the net guys. In every shot, they are in the exact same pose. Also, those have got to be early shots because there is no shading! The final product turned out great though and me and my brother spent almost as much time playing Duke in the Carribean as the the orignal game. It seemed so relaxing...

I think the net guy in the third shot is in a different pose, facing the camera a bit more.

Yeah, but look closer to the jackets... The old sprites were more detailed. :)

Can't blame them for changing them though: They ARE a bit too flashy.

Apparently these guys got a bit further into development than we imagined...

Looks cool. Apart from nets, they also had guns!

BTW, here's two more beta screens:
