New Map of the Week: Area 69
« on: May 22, 2008, 06:10:59 AM »
This is a brand new release from a chilean mapper called Fernito. Luckily I met with the guy in another non-gaming forum, and after recognising he is a hardcore Duke-fan, he kindly sent some of his maps to me after email contact. His style clearly indicates talent. There are more to come from him (a cool city map for example), but so far his best finished level is Area 69, a basement set in the North Pole. The map has a very unique feel, many new art, and a nonlinear gameplay. Recommended for Octabrain lovers as well.

I downloaded it yesterday.  I'll try to play it soon.

EDIT:  Why are there .DAT files from duke3d.grp included with the download?

Interesting question, don't really know.

I was going to try it with Duke Plus and add the snow effect, but I see he used tile013 which conflicts with the DP tile numbers! (n)

I don't see the point on playing a map with a mod.  I know that if I made a map I wouldn't want people to first try it with a mod...

I think DT wants Duke Plus to become a standard for playing the game, like the ports are these days. Honestly though, I'm not much of an HRP fan. Classic FTW!

i really want that too, DukePlus has all that stuff that normal Duke lacks.

@Davox: DP is not a mod-mod itīs an add-on that improves the visual and gameplay in all aspects.

I just wish it worked in Classic mode. If Duke Plus and Nuclear Showdown were combined I would be in heaven!

If you start mantling on ledges on a map that wasn't intented for it, it definitely changes the way it's played. And you could even reach places that wasn't possible to do so before. That isn't fair and totally ruins a map if it wasn't intented for DP. I understand using it on the second play, not the first.

In the upcomming DP version will be a menu where you can disable or enable all the features, also lot of that style of abilities will be disableds as default. Is not a problem at that way, i think.

Who said anything about mantling?  You know as well as anyone that the gameplay altering features of DP are optional.  I mainly wanted DP to add the snow effect and the other visual effects.

I never wanted to take this thread off topic, I'm just responding to this criticism now.

True that.

I'm sorry. I was just talking under the assumption that you were using DP like when you used it in brave new world, with mantling and stuff.
