I'm happy that the game is shown but the video doesn't show enough for me to ejaculate in my own pants.

Just to be clear: I don't think it looks bad, but it doesn't look extraordinarily good either.

No ejaculation here, I'm just saying there's no way we can make an informed opinion on 20 seconds of blurry game footage. But from what we DID see it doesn't look all bad so far. And like I said, if it ends up being $59.99 worth of crap then I'll simply avoid it like I do everything else that's come out thus far. I just don't see the point in nitpicking it right now. Wait until it comes out.

Way to generalise everything that's been said. From what I saw, MusicallyInspired, it did not have everything I want in a Duke game. It has everything I'd expect from some random next-gen shooter that I won't play for four years. Or they just deliberately showed the most generic bits of gameplay possible.

I said from what we can see so far it looks ok for a Duke game. It could happen that it turns out being absolute garbage but there's no way to know. So far vibrant colours, pig cops, Ego points/health, shrinkers, flying gibs, and chaingun cannons sound ok to me for a Duke game. Whether it really feels like a Duke game or not depends on level design, story, and (not to mention) actually playing the games ourselves which we can't possibly make an opinion on yet.

Quote
As I said earlier, I'm waiting for a longer, higher-quality gameplay vid before I'll dish out my criticisms.

Hear hear.

Also, I agree with the comments on 3DR fanboys. They're pretty much mindless morons.

Mikko, you seem like a reasonable man. You know there has to be a marketing campaign with interviews, videos, etc before releasing a product.

Yes, but for example the two trailers we have had so far are as of now pretty irrelevant despite the fact that they're nice. Even this new "gameplay video" has tons of stuff that isn't in the game anymore (according to 3DRealms). What 3DRealms is doing hardly qualifies as "marketing campaign".

If 3DRealms continues releasing videos every five years or so they will be irrelevant by the time the game is out. They will please some small amount of 3DRealms fanboy fanatics who wet their pants every time 3DRealms sneezes but the large majority of people who will buy the game won't care until the game is out.

What's your point? I didn't say those opinions were informed. But what I see so far doesn't conflict with what I look for in a Duke game. Therefore, it looks ok to me so far. I'm not going to start nitpicking or giving constructive (or otherwise) criticism until it's actually out or we at least get a decent full-length trailer. There's no point. Especially on 6-month-old(?) game footage.

To me it looked pretty much like Quake 4 and/or Doom 3. I didn't really like what I saw though. I'll sit back and await awesome street scenes just like Duke3d did over ten years ago...

I don't think I would have much of a choice.

Purchasing a copy of Duke Nukem Forever would be like... owning a chunk of rainbow.

Right.

I'll just say one thing. There has been NO information released on DNF other than the small tidbits 3DR has given. We haven't seen a preview for the game anywhere. It seems to me that if they had (at the very least) a general idea of when the game would be completed, 3DR would be pimping the game out to the press.

It's called marketing. Nobody's going to buy a game they've never read any information about or seen anything of it. It would just be retarded if all of a sudden one day 3DR says "Okay, it's done! Go buy it!" without doing any kind of marketing first. DNF is only known to people in the first place because of its infamy.

I think some people would refrain from buying DNF on principle simply because it's a laughingstock of the industry.

I think the controversy surrounding it alone would skyrocket game sales.

I think it'd be more of a rental than anything else. At least if they stay in the current state of business.

I want to play DNF when it comes out, even it blows hard. I like bad games more than alot of modern high-budget releases anyway. Unfortunately I won't be able to play DNF due to my PC being old and not owning a PS3/XB360. Oh well I'll get to play it someday when all that stuff is cheap.

Who wants to bet that DNF has a quote which has the words "weapons of mass destruction" in them? Possibly regarding duke's you-know?

It's just too politically edgy for 3DR to pass on.

I was talking to meth on msn and the phrase "weapon of mass destruction in my pants" came up, and I just knew it would be in DNF one way or the other. So I thought I'd post it here so in the future I can say "told you so".

As a level designer, have you seen anything about that game that interests you?  In those screenshots I see some nice looking character models and no level design at all.
