The news about the games is great - But I totally don't understand why they had to revive the Apogee brand for it.. what's wrong with the name "3D Realms"?

Hmm, maybe the '3D' part doesn't sound as catchy anymore as it was back in the 90s. :)

Good point.  Almost all games are 3D now so it sounds kind of stupid.

I think they just wanted Apogee to come back and used 3 Duke Nukem games to rise from the ashes, that's all.

So apparently this Apogee isn't the same Apogee from 12 years ago - In fact, it's pretty much a third party company that was authorized to use the Apogee name and make some games based on old IPs.. I guess Scott gave the green light for this but none of the early-Apogee Software/3DR employees even work at this new Apogee Software gizmo :s

So I'm just thinking they're reviving the game hoping it'll sell more - but it's not like the amount of gamers that played Apogee Software games when they were new and hot constitutes a majority :o

Well, based on from what I have read in the Apogee Legacy articles, it operated mostly as a publisher with only a couple of in-house developers, so it's not a lot different from the old days. Judging from the Apogee Legacy interviews, it was a very good and humane business.

From what I understood of Joe's clarifications in the thread at 3DR this new Apogee Software will, in fact, develop stuff. It's almost as if 3DR (the REAL Apogee Software) is outsourcing games to the new "fake" Apogee Software company.

They didn't revive anything but the name in itself - they should've just called it something else because right now it's such a confusing mess. :o

New details about the Trilogy;
http://ds.ign.com/articles/890/890668p1.html

If the differences are gonna be as big as I can make up from that interview then I'll buy the games for both platforms when they come out (as I've just bought a PSP).
