Alright, I worked on the vehicles last night and got rid of all of the bugs. I also added a sweet cockpit view. Well, I guess I'm a better coder than I thought, since noone has been able to program real vehicles into Duke before. Oh, and before anyone asks, the vehicles are sprite-based, not sector-based like in Shadow Warrior. I think the sprite-based vehicles are better anyway, because they allow you to take off from the ground and cross sector lines as well, unlike in Shadow Warrior.

I really think that I'll try to update the site soon. There's plenty of new info to go up, as well as the possibility of some new people to add to the team page. And I'll try to add some new screens soon, but as usual, it might not happen. Anyway, I'm tired of typing right now, I'm going to go work on Ultra3D!

Man youre wrong! AWOL was the first to have driveable vehicles, but its not released yet so yours may be the first RELEASED mod to have driveable. But not the first to complete coding it

But AWOL uses EDuke, and it's alot easier to program vehicles into EDuke. I'm not saying that it's a piece of cake, it's just that noone thought it was possible to put vehicles into normal Duke3D 1.3D. You know what I mean? Anyway, site update soon, so keep your eyes peeled (not literally, of course, that would hurt!).

Hehe, vehicles in 1.3 or 1.5 are the same as turrets really, not sure if that's how you programmed them, but it's how I would, at least as a starting point ;).

Oh and yes, vehicles are MUCH better in Eduke, they act better too. The vehicles in AWOL are alright, I guess other people will like em more than I will, I didn't program them, the ones I did are different (the way you control them, etc) and have 3rd person camerawork (they are meant for 3rd person). We'll see.

I had the idea that if the player were to press spacebar on the vehicle itself, it would change his action and activate steroids.  However, that wouldn't work because it would have to be in the player's code, and that of course wouldn't work.  But there was one time that I did get the Steroids to activate on pickup, even in Atomic.  I simply lowered to amount the steroids give you... I have no explanation on why it did it, but I was going to use the effect for a cloaking device.

Can't wait to see 'em, bullis1!

if steroids are not at 100% they will be considered "on" so if you set them to another percent when you grab them then they are "on".

Alright, the vehicles work like this:
1) You walk up to the car
2) It tells you to press "J" to enter the vehicle
3) Your view switches to an in-car first person view.
4) The car is a hover car, so you can change elevation with the jump and duck keys, and strafe with the side-step keys.
5) Drive into people/enemies/objects to destroy/kill them.
6) Press the activate/use key to exit the vehicle.

Alright, that is just a basic view of what it's like to use the vehicles in the game. Also, if you go into third-person view, it looks like you are in a car. I will add some effects like exhaust and dust clouds when you are driving close to the ground.

I'm not giving away the code just yet. It may sound like a simple hack job that activates the jetpack, but it's much more complex than that. I had to sacrifice 2 inventory items to use as flags, replace 2 or 3 actors just to get the effect of the player getting in and out of the vehicles to look right, and I had to re-write parts of the player-code. Trust me, the vehicles are extremely fun to use, and actually give the impression that you are driving a hover-car. I'll try to make some nice screenshots of the vehicles in action once I finish adding all of the effects.

Actually, my quote is from the old TV show, Monty Python's Flying Circus. It's really funny. My quote is from the classic skit "The Hungarian." It's where a man from Hungary is talking to a shop-keeper, but the Hungarian doesn't know english, so he is using a translation book. But all the stuff that he says doesn't make any sense, like "my hovercraft is full of eels" or "my nipples explode with delight". It's funny stuff when you watch it.

Don't worry Fakir. I'm working on a cool driving section in "Slaying in the Suburbs" right now.
