Anymore Golden Oldies?
« on: August 09, 2009, 08:59:15 PM »
Being a bit bored and I want a "new" game to play so I'm wondering if there are still any classic games (preferably FPS) that I haven't played yet.
I'm not talking Doom old but things like Half-Life, Unreal, Deus Ex, the NOLF series, AVP2, Operation Flashpoint, Max Payne series,...

Anyone have any suggestions? Thief crossed my mind, but I played that one a few years back and it seemed sorta dull, though I did only play the first mission so maybe I should give it another chance.

Quake 2, soldier of fortune, unreal 2, sin episodes, prey, daikatana, return to castle wolfenstein, red faction 2, red faction, far cry, serious sam 2, chaser, kingpin, delta force 2, fear. Just going through my games collection and writing every fps down I liked (for whatever reason - chaser sucked but was nice in a way).

Quake 2, unreal 2, return to castle wolfenstein, far cry, serious sam 2, kingpin, fear.

These ones I have played (though I'm not really looking for titles like FEAR, Far Cry or Serious Sam 2 - I'm looking for games that have that.. old-ish look about them, you know? yeah)

Kingpin was pretty shitty too IMO..

daikatana, red faction 2, chaser

I heard these ones a pretty poor from many people, so not sure if I'll check them out.

soldier of fortune, sin episodes, prey, red faction, delta force 2

These are interesting suggestions.. I don't think Prey is gonna look its best on my current PC though so I'll hold off of playing it for a while. But SOF1 and 2 I'll certainly check out sometime, same with Red Faction. Gonna see if I can get Sin Episodes somewhere..

What about Half life Opposing force or Blue Shirt?

Hitman 1 (is not a FPS though)

Blood 2 the choosen (a bad game but can bring you some minutes of fun).

if nothing above works, try Gunman

Chaser s bad, but in a semi-interesting way. Red Faction 2 is pretty fun - it has its flaws but the theme is pretty solid and it's an interesting play-through.

Yeah; Chaser has a big weapon selection, but it's not really good - I'd say it's worth a play if you have nothing better to play.

Fernito mentioned Gunman Chronicles. That is indeed not such a bad idea at all.

The only real complaint I had about that game was the robot planet being too much of a drag. It's a pretty decent game.

What about Half life Opposing force or Blue Shift?

Played them years ago, they're awesome :D

Quote
Hitman 1 (is not a FPS though)

Played it but didn't like it. Hitman 2 was a little bit better but very unforgiving, I played through that game shooting everyone because being stealthy didn't seem to work most of the time, people would see right through disguises. Hitman 3 (Contracts) is where it's at, very good game, but short too with only like 10 missions or something.
I've yet to play Blood Money.

Blood 2 the choosen (a bad game but can bring you some minutes of fun).

Tried playing it once (many many summers ago) but it didn't work properly, not sure what the problem was anymore. Might have been video or audio-related. May have to try again.

Been meaning to play that one for a long time but never gotten around to it, if I can remember I'll give it a go :)

Thanks for the suggestions, keep 'em coming!

I'll be sure to check out:
- Soldier of Fortune 1/2
- Red Faction
- Gunman Chronicles
- Sin Episodes
- Will retry Blood 2 and maybe Thief

Still not really sold on Chaser and Red Faction 2. RF2 sounds more interesting than Chaser though.

XIII? From what I've seen and read.. it doesn't really interest me that much. Maybe I'll play it out of hardcore patriottism because it's based on a Belgian comic. Same reason I played Outcast (made by Belgian developers).. but didn't really like that one much :(
