Go for it. I probably won't touch the map until the start of next year.

Done another 20 sectors.

*I expanded the ventilation shaft system just before you get to the first miniboss
*Added a trap to the "M" rune room; if you get the +30 a mortar will drop from the big hatch in the ceiling
*Added another hidden ammo cache to the room beyond the yellow key door
*If you murder the dancing girl on the boat, you get punished with a spawning octabrain squadron

Hey Nexus, nice to see you back! Gonna play through your version and expand it a bit. This is becoming a really massive and solid level, pity it is taking that long to make it.

It's going to be a worthy addition to the CBP "franchise". Plenty of new effects, I can barely believe it doesn't use con code myself. Gameplay is also quite interesting and has some fresh puzzles. I'm sure it'll be a classic.

Ok, the map has got another 40 sectors, totaling 1600 sectors by now. Happy New Year guys =D
Here's what I've done:

- Added some trimwork on door next to the metal wall;
- Built a tunnel leading to the ice rune (the player now has to go around those ice peaks);
- Added detail to machinery in the mutant room, also atomic health is now 'fed' to the mutant once Duke enters the room;
- Added some electric connectors at the power station;
- One of sentry drones near the big stone with runes now appears out of the smoke duct;
- Lots of texture bug fixes, so the map should look a lot better now;

Nexus, did you even notice how tiny your mortar is? =P
Also I don't get why you guys decided to make the runes themselves inaccessible until Duke finds all four runestones. He could collect them one by one as well, seeing which of them are yet to be found...

Hum, not sure why it's so small. I created it with a regular respawn. It's more "hidden" this way, so it's probably better.

Also, do you guys remember way back when that rotating reactor was created and we had to put it near the end of the level because it triggers every unactivated masterswitch in the level? You can stop it doing that by giving it a hitag. :/

Just realized that there already was a 'beta' version of this map which has a more refined final boss location compared to my latest version. Going to stitch both map changes together and prepare the map for final testing.

In the latest EDuke32 versions, the mutant 'gut' effect seems to be broken, as Duke gets teleported into the room instead of being killed, and the whole gut animation wrong. I'll try to fix that by using more conventional effects.

Overall, I think that the map is already playable and has only minor problems like that.

IIRC a few areas were a bit under-detailed, but at the end of the day I don't think detail would be important enough to hold this release back. Especially considering both the relatively low quantity of Duke maps released these days in combination with the average quality, which has been quite low (at least in the detail department).

This map was started over 7 years ago. Surely that'd be pushing for longest map in development, although I wouldn't be surprised if there were longer times.

In any case thanks for stepping up Leezing! I'm sure the community would greatly appreciate finally seeing the map.

There was some minor play-test observations & feedback starting on page 20 of this thread if you want an opinion of what to look at that may need to be "fixed" or addressed.

Is nobody working on this still? It would be nice if someone pushed it out before the end of the year.

The question is: The end of which year?

Touche.

Yup, somebody has to complete this map after all. Having unfinished tasks like this is what bothers me at times, and I feel special responsibility for this map as I've put much effort into it back in the days, and done many interesting things.

I've reread older posts with feedback and now have a more clear vision of what to do. Still figuring out the sequence for the monster explosion, but most stuff is more or less consistent now.

Not something I do very often anymore, but I'll beta-test for you, if you feel the need for one.
