A.dream trilogy
« on: February 07, 2011, 05:31:13 AM »
Finally. A complete trilogy on my horror maps.

This mini mod includes improved and edited version of the A.dream, complete remade version of A.dream 2 (old location has been remade + I added a lot of new locations). A.dream 3 is a complete new map.

Shots:

A.dream

A.dream 2 (from this level you'll have to push the use button to pick up stuff)

A.dream 3

Download link:
http://www.mediafire.com/?udqkre1a7nxi84r (replaced old link)

Note: play only in polymost. No HRP and polymer.

Sick reality.

Just played the newest one....awesome stuff! You've definitly outdone yourself on that one :) The rest of my post contains spoilers so nobody read this if you haven't played it, it's short and definitly worth going through at least once.

I felt it pulled a bit too much style-wise from 'Afraid of Monsters' but it's much spookier than the red series was. The introduction to the new enemies was well done; I also love the mindfuck events you pulled off throughout the level. I think it did need a stronger plot unless I missed some reading materials throughout the level. That was part of my problem with AOM as well since it did feel slightly aimless at times. The pistol also felt dull to use; maybe you could of made it semi-automatic, and buffed up the firing rate? That way it's more powerful but you have to work for it. In anycase I thought it was a neat coding touch to have the standard Duke weapons for the first levels and then switch to the new ones for the newest level :D

I hope you make more horror levels since combining level design with coding abilities means that you can suprise the players in many more ways. The sound effects were also great stuff, really pulled me into the atmosphere :)

Thanks. Hope you enjoyed the second map too, it's almost like the new map.

Btw, the main source of inspiration for all a.dream series was AOM DC. Definitely one of my favorite half life mods. Can't wait for Cry of fear from the same guy!

Where the hell is the glock? I see tons of clips lying around but no pistol. I have played the map twice, running from zombies as the knife is useless against them.

I barely played the beginning of the first too maps, and a big part of the third one (until I died) so my comments regard only to the latter. I liked the zombies and the sound atmosphere and some other stuff were also pretty cool. but the overall ambience was too bright to feel the mood of a scaring adventure.

Completed the 3 maps. This was so awesome! You did a great job Eddy =D
It reminded me a lot like Afraid of Monsters. But that's because you used some sounds, textures and ideas from it, but that's cool. the maps had some really cool scary effects and I loved the ending :p Great song!
Alright, that said. I think I encountered some bugs I don't know. First of all when you enter that little village, I forgot how it was called, on one of the roofs there's a pipebomb you need to get to blow the wall on another building. Well, the problem was that I couldn't get on that roof, it was blocked, or I did something wrong... well anyway, I clipped to the roof. Now a second one is at the mall. there's a shop with a little train that moves. But the train isn't following the traintrack, it's just spinning in a crazy way along with the 2 other little cars behind it.
Well, I just wanted to notify you of these things :)
I really enjoyed your little mod and I also can't wait for Cry of Fear for HL ;)

You have to use the box from the village to help yourself.

It's okay. As the sigh says, this train is out of order.

If you enter today DNR, at the left side you´ll see:

On this day...

In 2008, The Dream was released by Zykov Eddy.

Map Info:
Type: SP, Version: v1.4+
Rating: 90, Size: 3.05 MB

It´s a coincidence? or you waited for the third anniversary to release the trilogy? makes sense.

Just forgot to tell you something.

This project is probably my last release for Duke Nukem 3D, for a couple of reasons.

First of all, I don't feel like mapping on Build right now. That's why the third map is so short - it was made only in four days. I worked day and night to make it, finally release the project and go rest. Mapping gives me a headache.

Second, the community gets smaller and smaller. It always was pretty small, but now I just don't feel enough satisfaction for my work, especially after working on Sonic the Hedgehog 3D and having a lot of satisfaction (because a lot of people played it).

I like build engine very much, but now, I think, it's time to move on. Maybe I'll find something more interesting soon.
